Sarah Hyland joins remake of Dirty Dancing as Lisa Houseman

Hyland joins Abigail Breslin (Baby), Cole Prattes (Johnny), Debra Messing (Baby’s mom) and Nicole Scherzinger (Penny).
According to TVLine, “Modern Family” actress, Sarah Hyland, has been cast to play “Lisa Houseman” in the remake of the 1987 drama “Dirty Dancing.”
The actress will play the character Lisa, older sister to Abigail Breslin’s Baby. The character was played by Jane Brucker in the 1987 classic.
The actress joins Abigail Breslin (Baby), Cole Prattes (Johnny), Debra Messing (Baby’s mom) and Nicole Scherzinger as Penny.
ABC recently confirmed a new three-hour musical version of the 1987 romantic drama “Dirty Dancing,” which starred Patrick Swazye and Jennifer Grey.
According to reports “Scream Queens” star, Abigail Breslin has been picked to play the new “Baby,” who has been described as an “an innocent young woman in the early 1960’s who vacations with her affluent parents and siblings in the Catskill Mountains and falls for the resort’s working-class dance instructor.”
To be executive produced by Allison Shearmur and Eleanor Bergstein, the adaptation will be written by Jessica Sharzer, while Wayne Blair will direct.
Since the debut of the original “Dirty Dancing,” there has been the 2004 sequel “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights”, and a 1988 TV series which starred Patrick Cassidy and Melora Hardin.
The original “Dirty Dancing” told the story of Frances “Baby” Houseman, who while spending summer with her family in a holiday camp, falls in love with her camp’s dance instructor Johnny Castle.
